Monday Meetings at the Chantry

The NPS generally meets at the Morpeth Chantry on the first Monday of each Month (except when Bank Holidays intrude) and the Third Saturday. The next Monday Meeting will be on the 14th of May 2007

The Monday meeting has always had an element of tuition and an opportunity to seek assistance with pipe maintenance. Following suggestions from members the committee has decided to vary the format of the meetings in the hope of appealing to a wider section of the local members.

The Chantry opens at 7.30 pm for the meeting. There will be specific provision for less experienced pipers at the beginning of the meeting and later in the meeting there will be 'slow session' in the other room for those who would prefer tunes at a more sedate pace. We will generally try to have a session at the end (9.30 – 10.00 pm) hopefully incorporating something for everyone. Sometime in the evening, we will try playing some familiar tunes without music. This is to help those members who feel they are over-reliant on written music. For the moment we are concentrating on the tunes used in the procession at the Ovingham Goose Fair: Because he was a Bonny Lad / Salmon Tails up the Water / Jimmy Allen / Winster Gallop. However, to balance this approach, we intend to provide some written music in advance of the meetings to those who express an interest.

The society contains many able pipers and some of these will be invited to give workshops for part of the evening. Details will be published in the Newsletter.

If any members wish to kept informed of events at the Monday Meeting, they can get in touch with Alan Bailey, Nigel Barlow, Susan Craven or Barry Say or e-mail: mondaymeeting@northumbrianpipers.org.uk

We would also welcome other suggestions for the Monday meetings.
